BEST DAILY WATCH?
WHAT IS THE BEST LUXURY WATCH to wear everyday?
When shopping for a new watch, it can be overwhelming to navigate all the brands, models, and price ranges - especially when you’re hoping to find a piece that truly suits your daily life. I always encourage people to wear their watches as much as possible, but it’s important to think realistically about how you’ll use yours. Ask yourself: Will I wear this every day? Will it only come out for special occasions? Will it need to handle a lot of activity or different environments?
Considering these questions early on will make the decision-making process far easier. By understanding how and where you plan to wear your watch, you’ll naturally narrow down your options and be far more likely to choose something that feels right on your wrist day after day.
ROLEX SUBMARINER
If you’ve decided you want a watch you can wear every day, I highly recommend the Rolex Submariner. It’s a fantastic all-rounder and comes in a wide range of configurations, making it a versatile choice for many buyers. Personally, I suggest the vintage reference 16610, which strikes a perfect balance between everyday usability and classic character.
This particular Submariner reference was among the last to feature the aluminium bezel insert before Rolex transitioned to Cerachrom. Some examples also came with a green bezel insert—nicknamed “the Kermit” - under the reference 16610LV. For those seeking something a bit more eye-catching, Rolex also produced a steel-and-gold version (16613) and a full 18k gold variant (16618). Just keep in mind that the gold models may not be quite as well-suited to everyday wear as the all-steel options.
ROLEX DATEJUST
In addition to the iconic Submariner, another standout model from Rolex that competes strongly in everyday usability is the Datejust. Like the Submariner, the Datejust is offered in a wide range of variations, dial colours, and materials. However, the Datejust presents a slightly classier, more refined look compared to the rugged, chunky presence of the Submariner.
For most people, I recommend an all-steel 36mm version - specifically the reference 16234 or the earlier 16014. Both feature the signature fluted bezel, though the 16234 houses an updated movement and is a touch newer than the 16014. If you prefer a hint of gold, the Datejust also comes in a steel-and-gold variant (16013) as well as a full 18k gold model (16018). Again, keep in mind that the gold options, may not be quite as well-suited to hard daily wear as the all-steel versions.
That said, I’ve even seen someone gutting a tuna while wearing a two-tone 16013 datejust. If it can handle that, it’ll have no trouble keeping up with everyday life.
ROLEX GMT-MASTER
When considering the best daily wearer, you can’t overlook the Rolex GMT-Master II. This model earns its name from its ability to display multiple time zones, thanks to a fourth hand that works in conjunction with the 24-hour bezel. It’s an excellent choice for frequent travellers or anyone who can take full advantage of its dual-time functionality.
As a vintage fan myself, I tend to recommend the reference 16710. Produced during a similar era as the 16610 Submariner, it’s one of the last GMT-Master IIs to feature an aluminium bezel insert rather than the modern Cerachrom, giving it that classic, vintage look. The 16710 also offers three iconic bezel colour options; the red-and-blue “Pepsi,” the all-black insert, and the red-and-black “Coke”, allowing you to choose a style that best fits your taste.
To conclude, there’s no “perfect” daily watch - your ideal choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. That said, the three models discussed above stand out for their exceptional wearability and durability. For me, the Submariner is the clear favourite; when serviced properly, it’s a watch that can genuinely last a lifetime. Still, whether you choose a Datejust, GMT Master or a Submariner, you’ll end up with a reliable, versatile companion that will serve you well for many years to come.
